Tell us about your massage school and other trainings:
After working on an Organic Farm in Northern Cali, I discovered there was so much to discover about health and wellness and knew I needed to further my education on what was out there! I packed up my camper and left for Colorado where i grew up and attended the Colorado School of Healing Arts in Denver where I learned massage therapy is a just an umbrella term for so many healing modalities. From there, I practiced Sports Massage both inside the clinic and out in the field of sporting events and races where I was able to gain experience learning the athletic body in pre and post event bodywork. I received certification in Thai Yoga Therapy from Symmetry 360 Massage in Denver and Golden, CO. Through a hobby of Rock Climbing, I learned more about structural integration and posture along with body movement while engaging in and meeting others climbers in the sport. There are countless classes and workshops I dream of taking to further my education and experience both nationally and internationally including in Thailand and Costa Rica.
What bodywork are you currently studying?
I personally am really intrigued by myofascial and neuromuscular bodywork. The mere possibility that our bodies are woven so intricately that when pressure is given within the tissues, the nervous system responds with twitches and/or sensational referrals to another part of the body that can be both seen and unseen and can tell us that another part of the human system is in need of some TLC. Thai Yoga Massage and Muscle Energy Techniques are also fascinating to me which satisfies my interest in human biology and physiology as well.
What do you want people to know about their body?
EveryBODY is different!! While science and discovery have come a long way in many fronts, there is really no “one size fits all” approach to what you may be experiencing within your body. So while we may experience similar symptoms regarding issues we have, there are so many factors that play into our journey to healing such as trauma, cultural upbringing, and beliefs to name a few that also need to be aware of and possibly addressed to journey through that makes every single human so unique and beautiful. Part of the process if knowing that everyBODY is different and trusting ourselves and our bodies to tell us when something is going on and to listen from the inside out. While that is a journey in and of itself, it’s worthy of your time and attention because this body we have is a true gift that has been entrusted to us to steward.
What do you want people to know about health and wellness?
It’s a journey worth taking and you are worth taking that journey for yourself! Foundationally, It’s essential to our most basic needs and complex issues. It’s important to remember that wellness involves many aspects of your mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health. Be kind to yourself in your journey and always ask for help if you need it. This is a journey that we aren’t meant to make alone.
Self-Care Advice
We all have a lot going on and it’s all important however if we don’t take care of ourselves, we are not able to successfully take care of others and all the things our bodies require us to do. Take some time for yourself and keep it simple whether that’s just making a cup of tea, taking a walk outside, stretching or taking a deep breath and then you will find that your self care will evolve through the inspiration that comes with taking the first step into something!
What is your favorite system in the body?
How do I even choose?! They all are magical and created to work together so intricately!
The neuromuscular system is absolutely fascinating to me because it provides a whole other level of how we receive information from the body and then how to help return to it’s more fluid ways of function. I love it too because it allows me to be in communication both verbally and non verbally from my client which increases levels of safety knowing that your body is in good hands.
